0-0Perched at an altitude of 3000 meters in the Garo hills of Meghalaya, is situated Balphakram National Park which literally means ‘land of perpetual wind’. An awe-inspiring small canyon separates the Garo Hills plateau from the Khasi-Hills and is part of the National Park. It is the home of the Barking Deer and the Golden Cat. Wild water buffalo, elephants, red panda, tiger and marble cats are most commonly seen animals in this park. It's a real treat for wildlife enthusiasts to watch the almost extinct Gaurs or Indian Bison here. The third longest cave in India, Siju Dobkhakol is present within the park. The best time to come to Balphakram National Park is from the months of October to March when the weather is pleasant with little rainfall.
