Description And Features

Gayboo's Traditional Lodge was awarded the best homestay for its unbound and heartwarming hospitality for its space sharing culture in 2017. You can set up camp in front of the main building where they host other guests in rooms and suites. The management style at Gayboo's lodge meets housing standards. They make you feel at home and even ask to join them in cooking activities in the traditional Memba-styled kitchen connected with the dining space where everyone eats together as a family. The place is well equipped with all the amenities you would need but we recommend maintaining distance from the television. Distance/Time from Guwahati: 857.1 km / 19 and a half hour drive

Adventure treks

The Mechuka La trek is one of the easier treks here and can be done in a few hours. You can see the Mechuka town and the majestic Mechuka sign inscribed at the top of the mountain. The Lhakpa Chupalaa trek (River Island trek) is also a great way to spend your time resting by the Yargyapchu river with some bonfire and music. The Tokak La trek and Pasang Sonam Tso Lake trek require more time (2-3 days) and effort (up to 7 hours of trekking) but you know that means the rewards at the end of it are equally amazing. Please do the necessary research if you intend on taking up any of these treks as the network is poor and permit requirements are quite strict.

Local cuisine

Mr Gebu Sona and his family are quite literally the perfect hosts and have won over every guest they have ever hosted. Be it their hospitality or storytelling or culinary art, they include their guests in it every step along the way and nobody could have done it better. Try your hand at making these local dishes and then share them with your friends.

Major attractions

Samten Yangcha Monastery and Samten Choelling Monastery, the old and new Gompa's are great places to see their culture. You can also visit the Dorjeeling Gompa that's 6 km from Mechuka or the Neh Pema Shelpu Gurudwara just 12 km outside the town.
