day 1

VISIT KAMAKHYA TEMPLE, UMANANDA ISLAND AND KALAKSHETRA CULTURAL MUSEUM

You collect your vehicle around the given check-in time and drive to Kamakhya Temple in the western part of Guwahati. You can then head toward the life-supporting Brahmaputra river in this region. Umananda Island is one of the smallest river islands in the Brahmaputra river which the Britishers called the ‘Peacock island’ for its shape. You can also visit the Umananda temple on the island. The cultural museum Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra is a great place to learn about the people and culture of this land. For the night, you can stay at one of our recommended Airbnb or homestay. Day 2

EXPERIENCE HERITAGE TEA ESTATES AND THE BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER

On the second day, you drive toward Dhekiajuli crossing vast flatlands and the Brahmaputra river to see tea estates that span the horizon. The Sapoi Tea Estate has been in the tea business for over 100 years and has a massive plantation site with guided tours where you can get involved in farming practices and study the techniques that make a great cup of tea. The estate also has indoor sports activities and you can take farm tours on a cycle. They serve healthy organic food that is self-grown. The camper can be parked in the middle of the tea plantations and you wake up to one of the most memorable sunrises that you will have seen. CAMPSITE RECOMMENDATION: SAPOI TEA ESTATE. Day 3

EXPLORE TEZPUR AND CAMP AT LALIMOU CAMPSITE

Tezpur is a town not so far from Dekhiajuli. It is well known for the fact that people have maintained their land in a beautiful and responsible manner. After exploring Tezpur you move toward Nameri National Park where you can camp at the Lalimou Campsite. It is a beautiful and very well maintained property and is the best place to spend some relaxing time fishing by the river. You will spend the night here. CAMPSITE RECOMMENDATION: LALIMOU CAMPSITE.

Day 4

VISIT AND STAY AT NAMERI NATIONAL PARK

Today you visit the Nameri National Park that is home to a diverse species of plants and animals. The guided jungle walks through thick forests and dry riverbeds are great to spot some beautiful birds and plants. They also have a 3-hour rafting tour in the Jia-Bhorolli river in the south-east part of the park which is a great way to spot animals as they come to the river for water. It is advisable to carry some packed food should you need it while out in the jungle. You can spend the night at one of their Eco-Camps. CAMPSITE RECOMMENDATION: NAMERI NATIONAL PARK ECO-CAMPS. Day 5

VISIT AND STAY AT KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK

You can continue the wilderness run after Nameri by going to Kaziranga National Park which is stated as a World Heritage Centre by UNESCO for its environmental significance. It forms a unique biological corridor because of its seasonal changes and the variety of landscapes and weather conditions. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, most notable being the Indian one-horned rhinoceros.
