day 1
Kayaking and camping at white water village
After checking in (11-11:30 AM) and collecting your camper you head toward Shillong which is a 2-hour drive from Guwahati. After reaching the campsite you can rest by the tea and strawberry farms or dive right into kayaking activities in the Umtrew river. You will camp here for the night. CAMPSITE RECOMMENDATION: WHITE WATER VILLAGE NOTE: WHITE WATER VILLAGE IS 85 KM OR 2 HOURS FROM GUWAHATI.
Day 2
EXPLORE AND CAMP AT NONGKHNUM RIVER ISLAND
On the second day, you will drive toward the second largest river island in Asia and cross some exciting landscapes on your way. You can visit some wonderful waterfalls in the region and try the local food which is unique to the region. For tonight you can free camp under a bright sheet of endless stars. CAMPSITE RECOMMENDATION: FREEDOM CAMPING NOTE: NONGKHNUM IS 133 KM OR 4 HOURS FROM WHITE WATER VILLAGE.
Day 3
EXPLORE CAVES AND WATERFALLS AT CHERRAPUNJEE
You can spend the third day hopping across the numerous waterfalls in this region. We recommend visiting the Janailar, Weisawadong and Nohkalikai waterfalls in Cherrapunjee but you can always trek and find your routes to new waterfalls. Sa-i-mika resort has a great campsite overlooking the valley to rest for the night. CAMPSITE RECOMMENDATION: SA-I-MIKA RESORT NOTE: CHERRAPUNJEE IS 125 KM OR 3 AND A HALF HOURS FROM NONGKHNUM.
Day 4
TREK TO THE LIVING ROOT BRIDGES IN CHERRAPUNJEE
Today you can trek through the beautiful trails leading up to the popular single and double-decker living root bridges in the Nongriat village. You will have to park the cars and trek down for about an hour to reach the living root bridges. The bridges are made and maintained by the locals using natural materials with techniques that are centuries old. The natural ecosystem in this region is very well balanced that enables some of the most magnificent landscapes to flourish. You can spend the night at a homestay with basic facilities and try the local food culture which is difficult to get elsewhere. If you plan on returning to Sa-i-mika please plan the day accordingly. CAMPSITE RECOMMENDATION: SA-I-MIKA NOTE: LIVING ROOT BRIDGES ARE 17 KM OR 1 HOUR FROM SA-I-MIKA.
Day 5
EXPLORE MAWSYNRAM AND STAY AT WEIING CAMPSITE
Mawsynram is home to some of the most interesting caves in the world, including Krem Puri which is the longest sandstone cave in India. After caving, you can spend the day at Weiing Lakefront Camp resting by the river along the campsite and fishing. They also offer kayaking adventures. You could even head out on jungle walks to spot the interesting carnivorous pitcher plants. The nearby village has apiculture sights (honey bee rearing in wooden boxes) and we highly recommend visiting this place to learn the importance of the little creatures and their contribution to our ecosystem. You can spend the night at Weiing campsite. CAMPSITE RECOMMENDATION: WEIING LAKEFRONT CAMPSITE. NOTE: MAWSYNRAM IS 97 KM OR 3 HOURS FROM NONGRIAT.
